LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Rams opened Week 4 preparation for Sunday's road matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles with a key question on defense, as star defensive tackle Aaron Donald did not practice due to a sore back. His game status remains up in the air, while wide receiver Puka Nacua is trending toward a return for the cross-country trip to Philadelphia.

Head coach Sean McVay revealed Donald's issue when he met with reporters, noting the veteran is dealing with soreness. "I wouldn't want to say anything of that nature yet," McVay said regarding Donald's status for Sunday, according to Rams reporter Zach Edwards. "But (his) back's a little bit sore, and he's as tough as it gets, we'll continue to have updates as the week goes."

Nacua, who has been sidelined, was described as a full participant by the player but was officially listed as limited on Thursday. Offensive coordinator Scheelhaase said Nacua "twisted" to catch a pass thrown behind him, which the staff took as a good sign, and he is on track to face the Eagles if he gets through the practice week without a setback. McVay also addressed speculation that Nacua's absence was contract-related as he enters the final year of his deal. "Yeah, it's not true," McVay said on ESPN Los Angeles Wednesday. "He just did a great job with our walkthrough. He's been working, chomping at the bit to get back out there with his teammates and this week, we expect him to be out there."

Los Angeles has navigated a shaky start marked by flat performances and injuries while still competing the last two weeks. Getting Nacua back would boost an offense that has leaned on Davante Adams and Matthew Stafford in his absence, while Donald's availability will be central to slowing Philadelphia. The matchup carries early NFC weight as the Rams look to steady their season, with Philadelphia also managing injury questions ahead of the clash including DeVonta Smith legitimately questionable for the Eagles-Rams game.
