SINGAPORE — Leylah Fernandez won her sixth WTA Tour singles title with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over first-time finalist Talia Gibson in the Singapore Open final. The sixth-seeded Canadian closed out a tight opener before bagelling the Australian in the second set to secure the WTA 500 crown.

Fernandez, the 2021 US Open runner-up and former world No. 13, traded four breaks with Gibson midway through the first set before striking the decisive fifth break in game 11 to take it 7-5, then raced through the second set without dropping a game. Her run included wins over top seed Mirra Andreeva in the quarter-final and fifth seed Maja Chwalinska in the semi-final, while Gibson upset seventh seed Maria Sakkari in the last eight and advanced via walkover against Tatiana Prozorova.

The title delivers a rankings lift for both. Fernandez entered Singapore at No. 31 and will rise five places to No. 26 in the Live WTA Rankings, adding 440 points net after dropping 60 points from last year despite the 500 points on offer for a WTA 500 title. Gibson, currently No. 63, earned 304 points net toward the 325-point runner-up allocation and is projected to climb 26 spots to a career-high No. 37 when official rankings update Monday, 28 September, overtaking Kimberly Birrell — who won the Korea Open over Maya Joint — as Australian No. 1. The 22-year-old Gibson continues to wait for a first WTA title.

Prize money also rises. Fernandez had earned $1,407,731 in 2026 before Singapore and adds $185,500 for the title, moving her career total from $8,765,870 closer to the $9,000,000 mark. Gibson, who had earned $1,054,596 in 2026 and $1,932,154 in her career before the final, collects $114,500 as runner-up. Both now head to Beijing for the WTA 1000 China Open, where Fernandez is among the seeded players receiving a bye into the second round.
