CHENGDU — Alejandro Davidovich Fokina beat Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 7-6(7) to win the Chengdu Open final at the ATP 250 event, securing his second ATP Tour title of the year and $184,085 (£139,039) in prize money plus 250 ranking points, while runner-up Hurkacz collected $107,375 (£81,100) and 165 points.
The final was tight from the start. Hurkacz, 29, won a 12-minute opening game, but Davidovich Fokina broke the Pole's serve in the seventh game to take the first set 6-4. The Spaniard continued to pressure the former Wimbledon semi-finalist on serve in the second set, yet Hurkacz held firm to force a tiebreak. Hurkacz grabbed an early mini-break to lead 6-3, but Davidovich Fokina saved four set points and converted his first match point to close out the 6-4, 7-6(7) victory.
The title marks a second breakthrough for the 27-year-old, who made it sixth time lucky to win his maiden title at the Mallorca Open and has now doubled his career tally. Hurkacz, an eight-time ATP Tour champion whose last title came in Estoril in April 2024, was denied a ninth crown. Davidovich Fokina, whose career high is world No. 14, moves from 29th to 26th on 1,930 points. Hurkacz, a former world No. 6, jumps seven spots from 46th to 39th on 1,285 points; a victory would have lifted the 6ft 5in Pole to 37th on 1,370 points.
Both players have struggled with injuries in the past year, making the week a significant confidence boost. Hurkacz started 2026 ranked 73rd as he returned from knee surgery and is now closing in on the top 30. For Davidovich Fokina, long viewed as unlikely to win an ATP title, he now owns two.
