LONDON — Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal as Chelsea beat Arsenal 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Barclays Women's Super League to end the Gunners' unbeaten run stretching back to October 2025. Thompson fired in from close range to break the deadlock after Arsenal had struck the post twice, securing a third WSL win for the hosts in front of their home crowd.

Keira Walsh created the winner with a strike from distance that was initially well kept out by Arsenal goalkeeper Anneke Borbe, but the keeper was left helpless when Thompson pounced in the box to fire home the rebound in emphatic style. The goal came against the run of play after Arsenal had controlled the early stages and threatened to take the lead.

Arsenal failed to make their early dominance count after Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey both struck the post. The Gunners, who had drawn their last two WSL matches, improved again in the second half and pushed for an equaliser, but Chloe Kelly saw an angled drive blocked and Alessia Russo had a shot charged down as Chelsea saw out the closing stages.

The result ends Arsenal's 20-game unbeaten streak in the WSL, their first defeat since October 2025, and leaves the Gunners searching for a response after back-to-back draws. Victory takes Chelsea to within two points of league leaders Manchester City at the top of the table, while Arsenal are already seven points adrift ahead of their meeting with the champions on October 4.
