MANCHESTER — Manchester United reported a seventh consecutive annual loss on Wednesday, as costs associated with player acquisitions and the departure of former head coach Ruben Amorim impacted the club's bottom line. The organization recorded a net loss of £43m for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2026, widening from the £33m loss reported in the previous year.
The financial results come despite the club achieving record revenue of £677.6m, a 1.7% increase. The total loss includes an exceptional cost of £8.2m related to the restructuring and departure of Amorim, whose exit costs were mitigated after he accepted a position at Milan. "We will continue to take a disciplined approach to ensure our finances remain sustainable," said CEO Omar Berrada.
Under the management of Michael Carrick, the club achieved a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing a Champions League spot. This performance has led the club to forecast record revenue between £740m and £760m for fiscal 2027. Despite these projections, the club has accumulated nearly £190m in losses since fiscal 2024, prompting minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe to implement cost-cutting measures, including job reductions and ticket price increases.
The club's wage bill decreased by £11.3m to £302m, a 3.6% reduction attributed to changes in the men’s first-team squad and ongoing headcount reduction programs. While the club faces continued scrutiny over its financial performance, the recent on-field results have provided a positive outlook for the coming season. This financial update follows recent discussions regarding the team's performance, including concerns raised after the 1-1 draw at Fulham.
