RIJEKA — England produced one of their best performances in recent times as they thumped Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka, with Harry Kane scoring twice and Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka also on target in a dominant victory.
Kane opened the scoring before Bellingham, Gordon and Saka found the net before half-time to establish a 4-0 lead. Captain Kane then added a fifth early in the second half before Saka scored his second from close range and substitute Morgan Rogers added a seventh to secure the rout for Thomas Tuchel's side.
BBC Sport England reporter Alex Howell rated Bellingham as the best player on the pitch with a 9, highlighting his lovely pass to thread Kane through for the first goal, his strike for England's second and his assist for Saka's fourth. Gordon and Kane also received 9s — Gordon for assisting Bellingham and scoring for a fourth consecutive England game with huge confidence, and Kane for elite finishing, energetic pressing from the front and his passing range.
Saka earned an 8 for his brace and growing partnership with Jarell Quansah on the right, though he missed a chance for a hat-trick in the second half. Quansah, surprisingly chosen at right-back over Trent Alexander-Arnold, also scored an 8 after a powerful running display and a quality assist for Gordon, while Elliot Anderson earned an 8 for another mature midfield performance and setting up Kane's fifth. Lewis Hall, Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi and first-time starter Alex Scott each received 7s, with Hall offering pace and underlapping runs into midfield.
Jordan Pickford was rated 6 after racing out to deny Ivan Perisic early and surviving Mateo Kovacic's incredible miss. Among the substitutes, Rogers scored a 7 for his composed finish rounding the keeper, while Eberechi Eze, James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White each received 6s after coming on as England cruised to victory.
