WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets announced on Wednesday that they have suspended goaltender Connor Hellebuyck for a "failure to report to training camp." The move comes as the organization prepares to officially open its training camp on Thursday.
Hellebuyck, who previously requested a trade in August, stated at that time that a departure from Winnipeg was "the best path forward for me and my family." General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is scheduled to address the media on Thursday morning regarding the suspension and the status of the goaltender.
The Jets organization previously noted they would continue to work through the situation in a thoughtful manner. While trade discussions involving the Buffalo Sabres occurred prior to the 2026 NHL Draft, the Jets have maintained that they have not received offers reflecting fair value for the goaltender, who is under contract through the 2030-31 season at an average annual value of $8.5 million.
In anticipation of potential roster changes, the Jets signed former Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Stuart Skinner to a two-year, $7.5 million contract during the offseason. Skinner joins the organization as a depth option as the team navigates the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Hellebuyck’s future with the franchise.
