Flyers' Dan Vladar Exits Preseason Loss to Bruins With Injury

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Flyers No. 1 goaltender Dan Vladar left Tuesday, Sept. 22, with an upper-body injury in the first period of a 5-1 preseason loss to the Boston Bruins and did not return.

Vladar, 29, reached out for a loose puck when Bruins forward Tanner Jeannot appeared to clip him as he skated by. Vladar lost his stick on the play and Boston's Michael Eyssimont scored moments later on a deflection of a shot from the point. Vladar skated directly to the bench, where a trainer appeared to be looking at his arm, and the Flyers later announced he would not return due to an upper-body injury.

Vladar signed with Philadelphia ahead of last season as a free agent and seized the starting job, going 29-14-7 with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. His steady play helped the Flyers end a five-year playoff drought, with Philadelphia beating the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round before losing in the second round.

The 29-year-old signed a five-year, $27.5 million extension during the offseason. He was replaced against Boston by Aleksei Kolosov as Philadelphia dropped its second preseason game.
