DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche rolled to a 6-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night to cap a high-scoring opening week that also saw the Los Angeles Kings give up eight goals in a season-opening loss to Colorado, as the Avalanche and head coach Jared Bednar agreed to a four-year contract extension.

Colorado broke the game open with a four-goal second period against St. Louis, with Nicolas Roy and Martin Necas scoring 23 seconds apart to turn a close game into a rout and secure the Avalanche victory.

The defeat highlighted a costly blunder by Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington against Colorado, while the Kings' eight-goal concession in the opener underlined the early offensive rhythm Colorado has shown just two games into the season.

The results come as Colorado locks in continuity behind the bench, with Bednar agreeing to a four-year extension to remain with the Avalanche.
