NEW YORK — New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart exited less than one drive into Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams with a left knee injury, forcing Jameis Winston into action on the opening possession. Dart was hurt on a third-down pass when he jumped to throw downfield under pressure and was sandwiched between multiple defenders, grabbing his left knee in pain before limping off the field without assistance.

Winston took over at quarterback after Dart exited and Dart walked to the locker room as that series began. The Giants listed Dart as questionable to return and he was later carted to get X-rays. Giants head coach John Harbaugh did not provide an update during an interview with ESPN at the end of the first half, saying, "Ah, we're just focused on the second half right now and trying to find a way to win the game. We're not thinking about that right now."

The injury came after the Giants got off to a great start this season and less than one drive into their second game. Dart was a first-round pick last year and had a promising rookie season, though his aggressiveness and running style led to injury concerns, including being evaluated for concussions five times as a rookie.
