NASHVILLE — Jalen Hurts hit a wide-open Darius Cooper at the back of the end zone with nine seconds remaining to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2 in Nashville.
Hurts set up the winner with a 19-yard pass to DeVonta Smith on a flag route along the left sideline on third-and-6. The conversion gave Philadelphia first-and-goal at the 3-yard line with no timeouts and 14 seconds left, and Hurts found Cooper on the next decisive play to reclaim the lead.
Tennessee had taken a 20-17 lead with 1:56 left on a 33-yard field goal by Joey Slye to cap a 69-yard drive. Cam Ward hit Elic Ayomanor for a 41-yard pass — with Ayomanor hurdling Philadelphia safety Marcus Epps — and Tyjae Spears followed with a 27-yard run to reach the Eagles' 9-yard line. Facing a chance to put the game away, Ward was sacked by Jalen Carter for a 9-yard loss after Carter blew by tackle JC Latham on a run fake. Tennessee managed only 4 yards on the next two plays and settled for the field goal. Carter left briefly during the kick with an apparent injury but returned after suffering a cramp in his left calf.
The Titans led 7-0 in the first quarter after Ward scored on a rush up the middle, set up by Amani Hooker's 92-yard interception return off Hurts to the Philadelphia 10-yard line. Philadelphia answered with touchdowns on its next two possessions — a 2-yard scoring run by Tank Bigsby and a Hurts touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith — to lead 14-7. Slye cut it to 14-10 with a 37-yard field goal before halftime, but Jake Elliott restored a seven-point margin with a 58-yard field goal on Philadelphia's second possession of the third quarter. Tennessee tied it at 17-17 later in the third on a drive highlighted by a 25-yard pass from Ward to Calvin Ridley, finished by Ward's second 1-yard touchdown run.
Ward finished 13 of 20 for 183 yards passing and added two rushing touchdowns, while Tony Pollard rushed for 64 yards on 14 carries. Hurts completed 26 of 37 passes for 264 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Smith caught 10 passes for 117 yards and a score, and Dontayvion Wicks added 74 yards on 5 receptions. Philadelphia improved to 2-0 with its second close win after a 24-22 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 1, while Tennessee fell to 0-2 after a 23-10 loss to the New York Jets last week.
