MIAMI — The Miami Dolphins are searching for running back depth after star De'Von Achane suffered a season-ending ACL tear against the Kansas City Chiefs. Achane is out for the season and will not return until 2027, prompting Miami to work out four running backs, including former Seattle Seahawks backs Kenny McIntosh and Damien Martinez, according to the official NFL transaction wire.
McIntosh and Martinez were seventh-round picks in 2023 and 2025 respectively, and were among the four backs Miami evaluated as it looks to replace Achane. The tryouts come as the Dolphins seek immediate depth following the loss of one of their most explosive offensive players.
McIntosh made Seattle's active roster as a rookie and had a minor role in the offense in 2024 after injuries limited his playing time in 2023. He missed all of 2025 with an ACL tear suffered in training camp, was waived earlier this summer during training camp and has not signed with a new team despite visits with several teams, including Klint Kubiak's Las Vegas Raiders.
Martinez finished his collegiate career at the University of Miami and entered the league with intrigue as a Day 3 pick, but underwhelmed throughout camp and preseason and was cut. Seattle briefly kept him on the practice squad before releasing him early in September. He remained a free agent until the Green Bay Packers added him to their practice squad in December, then competed for a roster spot this preseason before being let go without immediately signing to a practice squad.
