DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys have acquired veteran cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Wednesday night trade, sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to Pittsburgh. The deal marks another transaction between the frequent trade partners and was first reported without compensation before details emerged about 20 minutes later.
ESPN's Todd Archer reported the full compensation, citing a source that Dallas is giving up a sixth-rounder in 2027 and a second-rounder in 2028 for Porter. The split in draft years pushes the higher-value selection two drafts out, with only the Day 3 pick conveying next year.
Retaining the 2027 second-round pick is a significant outcome for Dallas, which holds a small amount of draft capital next year and is expected to pursue a new deal for Porter on top of the trade cost. Pittsburgh now controls three of Dallas' selections in the 2027 NFL Draft — the third-round pick tied to the Broderick Jones deal, the fifth-rounder from the George Pickens trade, and the newly acquired sixth-rounder for Porter.
Original reporting had suggested the sixth-round pick involved could be conditional, though Archer's update did not mention a condition. The situation remains fluid as the teams finalize the trade, with Dallas adding a proven corner and Pittsburgh stacking future capital.
