MIAMI — Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown plans to accept a plea deal on an aggravated assault charge, effectively avoiding a potential 30-year prison sentence related to an attempted murder charge. Brown is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday to finalize the agreement.
The legal matter stems from an incident in May 2025 following a celebrity boxing match in Miami. According to an arrest warrant, Brown was accused of grabbing a handgun from a security guard and firing two shots at a man he had been fighting, with the victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, reporting that a bullet grazed his neck. Nantambu’s attorney, Richard L. Cooper, confirmed this month that his client has forgiven Brown and will no longer participate in the case.
“They made him an offer he couldn’t refuse,” said Mark Eiglarsh, Brown’s attorney. Eiglarsh stated that the resolution involves straight probation with no jail time, house arrest, fines, or mandatory evaluations. “There is a profound difference between believing you can win a case and deciding that you and your family cannot afford to spend another year, or potentially several years, wearing an ankle monitor and fighting it,” Eiglarsh added.
Brown, 38, played 12 NFL seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Over 146 career games, he recorded 928 receptions for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and four consecutive first-team All-Pro honors between 2014 and 2017. His professional career concluded in 2021.
