CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Hornets and wing Brandon Miller have been actively discussing a rookie scale extension, with the former No. 2 overall pick entering his fourth season in Charlotte after being selected second in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Miller has battled injuries throughout his career but has proven to be a building block for Charlotte when healthy. Last season, the 6-foot-7 wing averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, taking a clear leap with his efficiency while shooting 38.3% on 7.9 three-point attempts per game and 89.2% on a career-high 3.4 free throw attempts per game.
Durability has been the variable. As a rookie, Miller appeared in 74 games. That total dipped to 27 games in his second season due to a torn ligament in his right wrist. He returned to play 65 games last season, though he battled shoulder instability throughout the year.
The extension talks come as Charlotte evaluates its core around Miller heading into his fourth year. The discussions follow a wave of rookie-scale extensions around the league, including Keyonte George's five-year, $157.5M extension with the Jazz and Pelle Larsson's four-year, $60M deal with the Heat.
