Dereck Lively II Not Cleared for Mavericks Camp With Foot Injury

DALLAS — Dereck Lively II has not been cleared for training camp as the Dallas Mavericks center continues to recover from right foot surgery, sources told Tim MacMahon of ESPN. The update leaves the 22-year-old sidelined to open camp while he ramps up toward being cleared for basketball activity.

Lively appeared in just seven games last season before undergoing season-ending foot surgery in December, and his status for the regular season is still being determined. He has appeared in just 43 games over the last two seasons as injuries have limited his availability following the December procedure that ended his campaign early.

The Mavericks are not discouraged by Lively's progress as he continues his rehabilitation, according to the report. Dallas will continue to monitor his recovery before determining his availability for the start of the regular season.
