Clippers Send Kawhi Leonard to Raptors in Official Blockbuster Trade

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Clippers-Toronto Raptors trade sending Kawhi Leonard to Toronto is official, according to ESPN, with the Clippers receiving forward Brandon Ingram, guard Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, two second-round picks in 2030 and 2033, and a 2027 first-round swap.

The deal was initially agreed on June 30, 2026, but the teams held off on completing it because of the ongoing NBA investigation into salary cap circumvention involving Leonard and the Clippers. The NBA announced disciplinary action on Sept. 2 after an external law firm completed enough of its investigation and shared its findings with commissioner Adam Silver, fining the Clippers $30 million, forcing the forfeiture of five first-round draft picks from 2029 to 2033, and suspending owner Steve Ballmer and two of the team's top executives.

Leonard, the two-time Finals MVP, is among the biggest winners in the deal. He managed to get out of Los Angeles and return to a familiar place in Toronto while receiving limited punishment from the league, a $700,000 fine. The Raptors are expected to offer Leonard a contract extension following the move.

The Clippers also gain a measure of relief as the franchise needs to hit the restart button after losing significant draft capital as a result of the investigation findings. The return helps ease the burden of going without first-round picks in the future. Ingram and Dick are among the biggest losers, left in limbo for most of the summer wondering what their basketball future would look like for the upcoming season and potentially beyond.

Ingram is expected to have a player option for the 2027-28 season and is coming off a season in which he averaged 21.5 points on 47.7% shooting from the field across 77 games played. Dick played in 76 games in his third season, averaging six points and 1.9 rebounds.
