NEW YORK — New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was carted off the field in the top of the sixth inning after a scary collision with pitcher Nolan McLean near first base. McLean inadvertently kneed Young in the head while chasing a groundball to first, leaving Young down in the infield dirt. Young lifted his arm and gave the crowd a thumbs-up as the cart traveled through the outfield.
Young laid in the infield dirt for several minutes as Mets teammates gathered around him and the Phillies waited quietly in their dugout. He was attended to by interim manager Andy Green and the Mets training staff before being placed on a stretcher. He was conscious and moving as he was carried off the field.
The Mets did not have an immediate update on Young's condition after he was taken off. The play halted action with both clubs looking on as medical staff evaluated Young at first base before the cart was called.
