SEVIERVILLE — FRA's Walker Webb repeated as individual state champion and Christian Academy of Knoxville, Grace Christian, Summertown and Signal Mountain captured team titles as the TSSAA Class A and Division II-A golf championships concluded Oct. 6 at Sevierville Golf Course.

Webb won the boys DII-A individual crown with a 7-under 137, one stroke ahead of Jackson Christian's Carson Andreoni. He is the first FRA boys golfer to capture multiple individual state titles since Josh Holtschlag in 2016 and 2018 after firing a two-day total of 134 to win last year's tournament and help FRA finish runner-up. In the DII-A girls championship, ECS' Mathile Walker became the program's first individual state champion with a final score of 147, five strokes better than runner-up Thawanporn Phothong of Webb School - Bell Buckle after rounds of 74 and 73 on Oct. 6. ECS's Margaret Porter finished state runner-up in 2019.

CAK boys claimed its 10th overall state title in DII-A at 25-over 601, five strokes ahead of Jackson Christian, with three players among the top 12. Junior Tyler Stafford shot 1-over 145 to tie for fifth with First Baptist Academy's Alexander Green, junior Roddy Sturgeon tied for ninth at 5-over after a 77 and an even-par 72, and sophomore Aiden Cooper placed 12th at 6-over 150. The team rallied with 11 birdies on the back nine. "The boys played one of the best back nines I've ever been a part of as a coach," said CAK golf coach Donnie Cooper. Grace Christian won its first TSSAA girls golf title at 47-over 327, eight strokes ahead of second-place Evangelical Christian, led by senior Lydia Walker in fourth at 23-over 163 and junior Leah Rowe at 24-over 164. "At districts when they won by quite a few shots, I think that's when they started to believe," said Grace Christian golf coach Brian Mountain. "They finally started to believe in themselves and saw what the coaches saw in them."

In Class A, Springfield's Elizabeth Prowse repeated as individual champion with a 5-over 145 after a 1-over 71 on the final day. Prowse shot 74 on Oct. 5 to trail DeKalb County's Chloe Boyd by one shot after the opening round before birdies on No. 5 and 13 secured consecutive crowns. She is the only Springfield golfer to win a state title. Summertown won the Class A girls team title at 22-over 302, two strokes ahead of Greeneville and Springfield, with all three finishers in the top 10 — senior Hadlie Campbell in sixth at 154, freshman Paislie Campbell tied for seventh at 154 with Eagleville's Alerra Strickland, and sophomore Halle Busby tied for ninth at 155 with Greeneville's Kamryn Renner.

Signal Mountain won its second straight Class A boys championship, while Greeneville tied for runner-up in Class A girls and finished third in Class A boys. The Class AA and DII-AA state championships will be played Oct. 8-9.
