Vidal Birdies Last to Win as Iowa State Dominates Schooner Classic

NORMAN — Alexandra Vidal birdied the final hole to claim her first career individual title and power Iowa State to a dominant team victory at the Schooner Fall Classic, where the Cyclones posted a tournament-record 30-under 810 (274-267-269) to beat host Oklahoma by 17 strokes.

Vidal closed with consecutive rounds of 66 to finish at 10-under 200 (68-66-66), one clear of Emma Zheng at 9-under 201 (68-67-66). On the 18th, Vidal was tied with Oklahoma sophomore Satonkan Thiengsri while Zheng sat one back. Thiengsri parred the last and Zheng birdied to create a three-way tie at the top as Zheng chased a second consecutive individual title to begin her career. Playing directly behind Zheng, Vidal needed par to share medalist honors and birdie to win outright, then delivered her tournament-leading 18th birdie to win.

Iowa State earned its second straight victory to open the season in record fashion. The final-round 269 is the sixth-lowest round in program history, and the 810 aggregate is the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history, with all three rounds ranking among the top 10 lowest. The 30-under total is the second-lowest to par in program history behind the NCAA-record 60-under at the 2023 MountainView Collegiate. The Cyclones also led the field in par-4 scoring at 13 under and in total birdies with 62.

Isabella Yan posted a career-best finish tied for sixth at 6-under 204 (68-67-69), recording three sub-70 rounds after entering the event with just one in her previous two seasons. Her second-round 67 was a career low, and her 204 tied for the seventh-lowest 54-hole total in team history with nine birdies and three bogeys. Nichakorn Pinprayoon gave Iowa State four players in the top 10, tying for 10th at 5-under 205 (70-67-68) for her 11th career top-10 finish, tying the 11th-lowest 54-hole score in ISU history with 12 birdies.

Krittiya Thanintorndamrongdej tied for 46th at 5-over 215 (71-73-71) and Aelisa Twiltermsup tied for 84th at 16-over 226 (75-73-78). Host Oklahoma finished second at 13-under 827 (272-275-280), followed by Florida State at 11-under 829 and Virginia Tech at 10-under 830 to complete the top four in the 16-team field.
