MEDINAH — Geoff Ogilvy came within a Sunday singles surge of ending the International team's decades-long drought at the 2026 Presidents Cup, but the United States rallied to win 17-13 at Medinah. The former U.S. Open champion had the Internationals in position for their first victory since 1998 before a furious American charge on Sunday denied him a historic debut as captain.

Ogilvy did everything right through the first three days, building a lead that left the Americans embarrassed and U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker apologizing for mistakes. On the latest episode of GOLF's Subpar, hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz argued that performance alone warrants another chance. "Geoff Ogilvy getting a lot of rave reviews for him being captain. A lot of talk about him possibly running it back because it's in Australia. The only problem is Adam Scott is kind of a big deal in Australia," Knost said.

The debate centers on the 2028 Presidents Cup at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Australia — Ogilvy's home country and the site of the International team's lone win 30 years earlier. Stoltz countered that Scott could still make the team as a player, noting "Would you expect [Scott] not to be on that team right now? He's getting faster off the tee," while Knost floated a dual role: "He might be a playing captain. Tiger was a playing captain down there," referencing Tiger Woods' stint as U.S. playing captain in 2019.

Both hosts ultimately backed Ogilvy to return. "[Ogilvy is] so well spoken, the players respect him so much," Knost said, adding "He's not playing a whole lot right now. He's more involved in his design business. He can give this captaincy all he wants." Stoltz agreed: "I thought going into [the 2026 Presidents Cup], I was like Geoff will do the right things, say the right things, make the right calls, and he did," he said. "I'd run it back with him, especially the fact it's in Australia." The 2028 Presidents Cup is scheduled for late 2028 at Kingston Heath.
