PARIS — Ukraine's national motorsport authority has called on FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem to impose sanctions on its Russian counterpart for opening offices in occupied parts of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian federation said the move by the Russian automobile federation represents a violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity and the FIA's statutes. It urged Ben Sulayem to act and for the governing body to apply disciplinary measures against the Russian federation.

The FIA is the global governing body for motorsport, including Formula 1. The appeal adds to sustained pressure on the federation to address Russian activity in the sport since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, with no new sanctions announced yet in response to the latest request.
