CARDIFF — The highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been elevated to a world title fight. The two British stars are set to meet at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday, December 11, with the event scheduled for broadcast on Netflix.

It has been confirmed that the vacant WBA 'Super' heavyweight title will be on the line for the winner. Reporting for The Ring, Mike Coppinger stated, “Breaking: Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will fight for the WBA ‘super’ heavyweight title, @ringmagazine has learned. Fury and AJ will both be looking to regain a heavyweight title.”

The bout follows the decision by Oleksandr Usyk to vacate his remaining titles earlier this year. While Murat Gassiev currently holds the WBA 'regular' heavyweight title following his July victory over Peter Kadiru, the WBA has opted to place the 'Super' belt up for grabs between Fury and Joshua.

Both fighters are looking to reclaim world championship status after previous losses to Usyk. Fury last held the WBC title until May 2024, while Joshua previously held the WBA, IBF, and WBO belts until September 2021. The upcoming December showdown marks the culmination of a rivalry that has been discussed for over a decade.
