LONDON — British heavyweight champion Richard Riakporhe says he is willing to give Johnny Fisher a shot at his British title should Fisher get past Michael Pirotton this weekend at the Copper Box. Riakporhe, who took the belt with a win over Jeamie TKV in April, told Sky Sports he sees both fan appeal and financial upside in a domestic clash.

“Why not give them the opportunity? Very respectful, likeable, and he’s a big puncher himself as well and a strong guy, like an ox. So it would be good for the fans to see…I’m seen as a dangerous guy, top 10 in the world, [but] who knows? I’m actually a fan of Johnny Fisher as well and the Bosh family. I’m going to be watching and cheering him on at the weekend,” Riakporhe said.

Riakporhe said he remains keen on moving toward a world championship fight, but is open to a fun domestic-level defense against Fisher. He believes the matchup would generate good money and resonate with local fans who would gravitate toward an all-British heavyweight showdown.

Fisher returns this weekend against Pirotton in what he hopes will be a step toward the big time. Riakporhe made clear he envisions himself at the top of the division long-term, but is not against making a lucrative stop along the way if Fisher delivers a win at the Copper Box.
