HOUSTON — Former undisputed champion Jermell Charlo has announced his intention to return to professional boxing, setting his sights on high-profile matchups against Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Tim Tszyu. Charlo, who has been inactive since September 2023, is looking to compete in the weight range between 154 and 160 pounds.

Charlo’s last appearance in the ring resulted in a unanimous decision loss when he moved up to 168 pounds to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Despite that setback, the former champion remains focused on securing significant fights, issuing a direct challenge to the division's top contenders by stating, “Line ’em up.”

The proposed move back toward the 154-160 pound range suggests a strategic shift for Charlo, who previously dominated the junior middleweight division. By targeting fighters like Ennis, Ortiz, and Tszyu, Charlo aims to re-establish his standing against the current elite talent operating in the middleweight and super welterweight classes.

While no official bouts have been confirmed, Charlo’s public call-out signals his readiness to resume his career. His team will likely evaluate potential promotional partnerships and venue availability to facilitate his return to the ring later this year or in early 2027.
