NEW YORK — The proposed boxing match between Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson has encountered a fresh obstacle, with negotiations stalling over financial terms. While both fighters publicly agreed to a 145lbs catchweight late last month, the finalization of the bout remains uncertain as the two sides work through remaining contractual details.
The agreement on the catchweight had previously resolved a significant point of contention, as Team Haney had resisted the inclusion of a rehydration clause. However, following social media posts from Bill Haney, Devin’s father and trainer, suggesting a lack of communication from Stevenson’s camp, reports have confirmed that money is now the primary factor delaying the fight. Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine indicated that while the financial gap is a current hurdle, there remains an expectation that a deal will eventually be reached.
A potential November 28 date in Atlanta, which had been previously discussed by Bill Haney, is now considered highly unlikely. Should the fight proceed, it would pit two of the sport's most prominent technicians against one another. Stevenson enters the potential matchup following his victory over Teofimo Lopez for the WBO super-lightweight title, while Haney is coming off a unanimous decision win over Brian Norman Jr. at welterweight last November.
