SYDNEY — Negotiations are close to being finalised for a December clash in Australia between WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara and former super welterweight titlist Tim Tszyu, according to No Limit Boxing promoter George Rose. Lara, who holds a record of 32-3-3 with 19 KOs at 43 years old, would put his title on the line against the Australian former champion.

Rose told Fox Sports Australia that talks are nearing completion for the bout, which is being targeted for December on home soil for Tszyu. The matchup would mark a move up in weight for Tszyu, who previously held a title at super welterweight, against the long-reigning Cuban veteran Lara.

The pairing presents a contrast in experience and style, with Lara bringing extensive championship pedigree and defensive craft built over more than a decade at the top level. For Tszyu, the opportunity offers a direct path to a world title in a second weight class while fighting in front of an Australian audience.

If finalised, the fight would add a major championship bout to Australia's December calendar and shape the middleweight landscape heading into 2027. Both camps are expected to continue discussions in the coming weeks as they work toward a formal announcement and venue confirmation.
