RIYADH — Former world title challenger Dillian Whyte has revealed he entered his August 2025 bout against Moses Itauma while carrying a significant foot injury. The heavyweight, who was stopped inside two minutes in Riyadh, stated that he sustained the initial fracture during a sparring session in his training camp.

Whyte explained that the injury occurred when he stepped back awkwardly during a sparring session. The situation worsened on fight night during his warm-up routine. “I started warming up, jumped a little bit of rope, and then re-injured the foot. Completely fractured it again,” Whyte told Sky Sports. He noted that his ringside doctor advised him against competing, but he refused to withdraw from the event.

Despite the injury, Whyte maintained he remained confident in his tactical approach. “There’s no way I’m going to come all the way to Saudi and not fight last minute,” he said. “I was confident that I would still be able to drag Moses into the later rounds and stop him.”

Whyte has not competed since the defeat to Itauma. Reports now link the British heavyweight to a potential return on a Zuffa Boxing card, with a prospective matchup against fellow British heavyweight Johnny Fisher.
