LAS VEGAS — Conor Benn’s attempt to capture the WBC welterweight title ended in a second-round stoppage loss to Ryan Garcia on Saturday. The defeat, which saw Benn dropped by a right hand before being halted on wobbly legs, marked a significant setback for the British contender in his first major challenge at the elite level.
Carl Froch, speaking on his YouTube channel, 'Froch on Fighting,' expressed skepticism regarding Benn's immediate prospects for a world title. “The guys at that level, and where he is, the fundamentals, the lack of amateur experience – he is going to really, really struggle to beat anyone for a world title,” Froch stated.
Froch suggested that the 29-year-old should move up in weight to campaign as a middleweight, noting that Benn appeared more effective at that size in previous bouts. While Benn is expected to move up in weight, potential future options include a trilogy bout against Chris Eubank Jr.
