RIYADH — Canelo Alvarez has detailed his long-term career trajectory, confirming he intends to compete in three or four additional fights before retiring from professional boxing. The 36-year-old is currently preparing for his upcoming WBC super-middleweight title challenge against Christian Mbilli, scheduled for October 31 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Alvarez, who lost his undisputed super-middleweight crown to Terence Crawford in September 2025, is looking to reclaim the WBC title from Mbilli. Speaking to ESPN, Alvarez expressed a clear vision for his final appearance in the ring. “I want my last fight to be in Mexico,” Alvarez said. “I was at Estadio Azteca and it’s a stadium that gives you an incredible vibe. I pictured myself fighting there.”
The veteran fighter noted that he has already held discussions regarding a potential event at the iconic Mexico City venue. Alvarez revealed he participated in a Zoom call with Emilio Azcarraga, chairman of Televisa and owner of Club America, to explore the feasibility of the stadium hosting his farewell bout. While his immediate focus remains on the October 31 clash with Mbilli, the path toward a final homecoming remains a primary objective for the remainder of his career.
