NEW YORK — Matchroom Boxing has signed long-reigning WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga, with multiple reports alleging his promotional debut will come against Olympic silver medalist Yuberjen Martinez on the November 14 Diego Pacheco vs. Darius Fulghum card.
Olascuaga (12-1, 9 KO), known as “Princesa,” first made his name stepping up on short notice against Kenshiro Teraji in 2023 before scoring a comeback knockout of Giemel Magramo five months later. He has been on a tear since, capturing the WBO belt with a sensational knockout of Riku Kano and adding five title defenses, including wins over “Bomba” Gonzalez and Hiroto Kyoguchi. The move gives the young, entertaining champion a major platform on TNT.
Colombia’s Martinez (7-0, 7 KO) brings elite amateur pedigree. The 34-year-old reached the 2016 Olympic finals before falling to Hasanboy Dusmatov and won two bouts at Tokyo 2020 before a quarterfinal loss to Ryomei Tanaka. As a professional, however, his resume remains thin. His first six wins came against no-hopers in Colombia, and his most recent victory saw him travel to Panama to beat unheralded Angel Bethancourt in a bout that featured a WBO trinket.
The matchup is not yet officially confirmed as a title defense, but reports point to Martinez getting the call for Olascuaga’s Matchroom debut next month. While Martinez has yet to face world-level opposition as a pro, his amateur background makes him an intriguing challenger for the champion’s sixth defense.
